Foreign Investors Have Not Lost Their Interest in Ukraine ‒ Rainer Bomba

09.04.2019

Foreign investors are interested in Ukraine, and this is demonstrated by meetings with them, said Rainer Bomba, former State Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure of Germany.

"Foreign investors have not lost their interest in Ukraine. This is confirmed by recent meetings with investors, " he said during the second meeting with representatives of the Reforms Delivery Office of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine on April 4, 2019.

At the same time, he added that Ukraine should demonstrate its readiness for the arrival of foreign capital to the international community.

Such signal, in his opinion, can be successful sale of at least three or four facilities of large-scale privatization. In particular, it should be the sale of facilities that are large enough to have interest in them; not from regulated industries; minimally burdened with toxic debts; and certainly not under an injunction.

He also stressed: "If you want to be successful in privatization, you should have a state agency that will professionally deal with privatization. It is very important to have professional management and rules of work".

As reported, in 2018, Volodymyr Groysman, the Prime Minister of Ukraine, and Angela Merkel, German Chancellor have agreed that Germany will provide Ukraine with expert assistance in privatization processes.

According to these arrangements, Rainer Bomba, former State Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure of Germany, has started his work in Ukraine. He has relevant expertise both in reforming industries and in selling large state-owned facilities.
