Last week, as part of a meeting of the Steering Committee of the Ukraine Donor Platform, civil society organisations from Chernihiv, Kharkiv, Mykolaiv, Odesa, Sumy, and Zaporizhzhia regions joined discussions with international partners.
Using these regions as examples, international partners were able to gain a clearer understanding of the needs and challenges facing areas that are under constant attack and where active hostilities continue.
Representatives of relevant ministries and local authorities from these regions also took part in the discussions.
At each roundtable, participants considered a wide range of issues, with a particular focus on topics of specific importance to each region:
-
Odesa region: transport and culture
-
Mykolaiv region: water supply infrastructure and social support
-
Zaporizhzhia region: support for veterans and businesses in frontline areas
-
Kharkiv region: advanced technology sectors, demining, and housing reconstruction
-
Sumy region: labour resources and education
-
Chernihiv region: restoration of social infrastructure using state funds and documenting damage to support accountability and justice
Regular dialogue between civil society organisations, international partners, the Government of Ukraine, and local authorities is an essential foundation for planning and delivering Ukraine’s recovery and development projects.
